Journal Introduction

The Journal of Language Service Studies (JLSS, ISSN: 3093‑7841 (o)) published by Zhongyu International Education Centre (M). It is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access interdisciplinary journal in language services, published semiannually in June and December each year.

The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Prof. Lifei Wang from Beijing Language and Culture University. Its editorial board comprises experts from multiple countries in the fields of linguistics, translation technology, and the language industry. JLSS enforces a rigorous double-blind external review process. Accepted papers are assigned individual DOIs and published in full online. The journal provides an academic dialogue platform for global scholars, educators, and language service practitioners, gathering cutting-edge theoretical achievements, industrial practice cases, and innovative research insights in the field of language services against the backdrop of globalization and intelligent technology transformation. It bridges the communication channel between academic research and industrial application, promoting the disciplinary construction of language services and the high-quality development of the industry in the era of intelligence.

The journal accepts manuscripts in English and publishes various genres, including original research articles, review papers, industry case studies, and short commentaries. Research directions encompass AI large models and intelligent translation technology, talent cultivation and disciplinary construction in language services, language services in specific scenarios such as legal, medical, emergency, and business sectors, language service industry governance and policy, as well as cross-cultural communication and localization practices. There is no submission fee. An Article Processing Charge (APC) is applied only upon acceptance. Rejected manuscripts incur no charges, and there are no additional fees for length or figures/tables. The journal adheres to international academic publishing ethics standards, ensures standardized archiving of metadata, and strictly follows the COPE guidelines for international academic publishing ethics.

Editorial Orientation and Publishing Features

In the current international open-access publishing environment for translation and linguistics, many journals lean towards traditional translation theory, literary translation, and pure linguistics paradigms, paying insufficient attention to language service issues oriented toward industrial implementation. Existing translation journals mostly focus on text translation and interpretation theory research. There is a lack of dedicated international publication venues for interdisciplinary research on language service industry governance, market practice, talent cultivation, AI-empowered language services, and applied scenario cases in fields such as healthcare, emergency response, and elderly care. Consequently, practical achievements from frontline industry practitioners struggle to enter the international academic communication system.

JLSS strives to form a complementary and symbiotic academic ecosystem with existing excellent journals in the field. It values both foundational theories and empirical research in language services, as well as frontline industry practice cases and industrial surveys. It aims to break down academic barriers between university researchers, foreign language educators, and language service industry practitioners. Distinct from traditional translation journals that emphasize text and literary translation, JLSS is grounded in the complete industrial ecosystem of language services. It highlights the interdisciplinary perspectives of technology empowerment, scenario application, and industrial governance. It specifically addresses the industry transformations brought about by large models and machine translation in the intelligent era, balancing the three dimensions of academic theory, talent cultivation, and industrial practice. This provides a dedicated international exchange window for language service research in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, which is the core strength of this journal.

In terms of publishing operations, the journal fully adheres to the COPE ethical framework, clearly defining the rights and responsibilities of editors, reviewers, and authors. It has established comprehensive management systems for corrections, retractions, and data reproducibility. Fee rules are open and transparent with no hidden costs. All publications are assigned DOIs with standardized metadata archiving to ensure the traceability of academic achievements. The journal maintains a stable semi-annual publishing rhythm and leverages open access to eliminate reading barriers, facilitating the transformation of academic achievements in language services into industrial applications and talent cultivation.
